Description
New from N. T. Wright, an accessible introduction to Isaiah 40-55 and its implications for understanding the mission of Jesus.
N. T. Wright’s fresh, multilayered and compelling interpretation of Isaiah chapters 40-55 offers a masterclass in understanding how and why God’s promises in the Old Testament came to be fulfilled in Jesus. Throughout, Wright employs a Trinitarian hermeneutic, which unfolds the text in three key movements: the original context of Israel’s God as Creator and Covenant-keeper; the early Christian understanding of Jesus as the embodiment of YHWH’s return to his people; and Paul’s Spirit-led vision of the church’s role in implementing the new covenant and inaugurating the new creation in the world. Into the Heart of Isaiah is essential reading for all who seek a better understanding of Isaiah’s profound and far-reaching prophecies, and how they fit into God’s grand narrative.
